The annual Community Grants is a small grants program that helps provide support to valuable and creative ideas happening in the local community. The program is made possible through the Field of Interest funds, the Smart & Caring Community Fund, and in partnership with some Donor-Advised funds — all endowed and established within the Community Foundation.
Although a wide range of interests may be considered for funding, the Community Grants program prioritizes local projects involved in promoting arts & culture; recreation for children and youth; activities for children and youth at risk; early literacy; and environmental causes.
The springtime grants program runs parallel with the North Dumfries Smart & Caring Grants. While both work with the same process and timeline, each program has its own grants committee made up of local volunteers. These community-minded individuals help provide insight and advice during the review process. They arrange interviews with the applicants, so that grant seekers have the opportunity to talk more about their proposed projects and programs.
“Our goal with our Community Grants program is not only to support the existing vital work happening here in Cambridge, but also to encourage local organizations to initiate fresh and creative projects that address the evolving needs of our community.” – Lisa Short, Executive Director
Several local organizations return each year, seeking support for their ongoing programs. But the Community Foundation is also known to seed fresh ideas in the community, to name a few — Strong Start’s Letters, Sounds & Words and the Get Ready for School programs, the Cambridge International Festival, and SHORE Centre’s Cambridge expansion.
The Community Foundation exists to ensure the needs of our community are met today and tomorrow. Since 1998, CNDCF has granted over $3 million dollars to our community, supporting both the vital and creative programs and ideas that help our community thrive.
