It’s Friday and that means it’s time for our #FriendOfTheFoundationFriday! We are showcasing one of the many businesses, organizations and individuals who work with the Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation and the amazing work that they do in our community and with the Foundation.

This week we are featuring our friends at the Greenway-Chaplin Community Centre! Greenway-Chaplin Community Centre connects community residents by offering neighbours and friends the opportunity to thrive by providing recreational, educational, supportive programs and volunteer opportunities.

Kelsey Orban, Program Coordinator shared with us their involvement in the community.

How is your organization involved with the Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundation?
The Greenway-Chaplin Community Centre has been involved with the Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundation for nearly a decade. Greenway-Chaplin started receiving Kids to Camp funding in 2009 to help families living in our neighbourhood attend camp at an affordable price. We have continued to receive support from CNDCF for programs such as our After 3 Club, Youth Drop-In, and our Neighbourhood Day Canada 150 Celebrations. We are also currently in our third year of our Youth Leadership Development Program, funded by the Foundation. This program provides training and volunteer opportunities for youth leadership roles within the community.

What is your favourite thing about the Cambridge and North Dumfries Community?
Greenway-Chaplin Community Centre is a part of the Cambridge Neighbourhood Organization (CNO) that works towards encouraging community as a collective. Through both the individual community centres and the CNO, we have created a group of people that are responsive to the community’s needs, are always willing to try new things, and aid in creating a sense of belonging in Cambridge.

How does Greenway-Chaplin Community Centre hope to make an impact on the future of our community?
Greenway-Chaplin Community Centre hopes to build capacity by providing leadership and employment opportunities, to create safe spaces for youth through programming, and to be responsive to community needs. We are also continuously striving towards healthy well-being within the community through social inclusion, healthy children and youth, and affordable housing. We believe that the more connected our community is, the larger the impact will be.

We would love to extend our congratulations to Greenway-Chaplin Community Centre on receiving their High Five Organization accreditation! We love supporting the work you do!
